THE STORY
XL Marine S.p.A. was established in January 2006 to bring to life a project for a line of “Open” motor yachts, ranging from 40 to 70 feet, conceived to embody absolute excellence within the contemporary yachting landscape.
The name chosen for the company and its yachts — XL followed by their overall length, for example XL 65 — encapsulates both the philosophy behind the project and the brand’s mission. The two letters XL symbolize the “MAXIMUM” of a scale, while also standing as an abbreviation of the verb to excel.
The XL yachts are therefore designed to embody the maximum in quality, performance, and comfort — the pure expression of excellence in design and seaworthiness. The shipyard’s founders boast over twenty-five years of experience in the nautical industry. The craftsmen responsible for the outfitting are highly skilled specialists in the construction of “Open” motor yachts designed to cruise at 40 knots and beyond. They were selected from among the finest professionals in the region — carpenters, mechanics, electricians, and finishers — for both their technical expertise and their passion for teamwork and excellence in every detail.
The team is led by Salvatore Oliviero, who brings more than twenty years of experience in the sector, having worked with prestigious brands such as Pershing and later Itama S.p.A.
The project’s overall concept and the supervision of all technical and design aspects are entrusted to Gianfranco De Mennato, who collaborates with the naval design studio Navaldesign & Consulting. With over thirty years of experience in naval engineering, Eng. De Mennato heads one of the most established and renowned technical naval firms in Italy, based in Naples.
A technical consultant for major shipping fleets — including companies within the Grimaldi Group —Gianfranco De Mennato also serves as an expert surveyor for leading insurance companies such as Generali, SIAT, and Lloyd’s, bringing extensive experience in the repair, refitting, management, and operation of large ships and yachts.
Salvatore Oliviero personally oversees after-sales service, warranty management, and winter storage for all XL Marine yachts. This particular focus on customer care and ongoing support is a strategic choice for the company, fostering a strong and lasting relationship with each of our owners.
In 2025, the Commercial Management was entrusted to Alberto and Federico Dall’Aglio, who have been active in the sale and brokerage of pleasure boats since 1983. Their extensive experience is now available to clients wishing to explore our products and learn more about XL Marine’s commercial offerings.
The first model developed by XL Marine was the XL 43, with its first unit launched in May 2006. Over the following years, thirteen more yachts were built. The second model, the XL 51, was launched in June 2008, with a total of five units produced. In 2010, the XL 45 was introduced — an evolution of the 43 — with two units built. Production came to a pause in 2011, while the shipyard continued to focus on refitting activities. In 2023, Salvatore Oliviero and Gianfranco De Mennato decided to pick up where they had left off and designed the new XL 45 – MY 2024. In May 2024, the first unit of the new XL 45 was delivered — a yacht that perfectly blends the shipyard’s signature elements - timeless sporty lines, shaft drive, deep-V hull - with innovative features such as a walk-through windshield, hydraulic swim platform, T-top, and new metallique color schemes. In 2025, the brand-new XL 55 WA made its debut, available in two versions: Private and Charter. N.1 XL 55 WA - Charter was delivered in May 2025. It will soon be followed by the creation of the stunning XL 65.
Today, XL Marine’s production facilities cover a total area of 5,000 square meters, located along SR148 Pontina, at KM 76.600.
